Years ago, a determined student in a remote village in Imo State, Nigeria, attended a secondary school with no Chemistry teacher and no access to computers for preparing for the University Matriculation Examination (UME). Seeing an opportunity to make a difference, we stepped in and provided hours of one-on-one tutoring and also paid for the student’s registration and transport to a computer center 4 kilometers away. Today, that same student has graduated with a degree in Biochemistry from the state university. That life-changing experience became part of the spark behind the #RuralDigitalEducation initiative for rural learners. Across Southeast Nigeria, many rural secondary schools suffer from a severe shortage of qualified teachers in these critical subjects. To bridge this gap, our project provides free electronic copies (e-copies) of standard secondary school textbooks in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to rural students. Our goal is simple: to equip committed rural learners with the resources they need to turn their dreams into reality—just like the young biochemist whose journey inspired us all. Together, we can level the playing field.
