2026 “SKILLS ON THE RISE” ARE DIGITAL SKILL! WHAT ABOUT IT?
The way organizations work and hire workers, keeps changing over time and only those who meet the requirements will sign the contracts. Traditional careers are making ways for dominant “blue collar” roles which is built on AI, digital skills and hybrid models. This change presents an opportunity for those with digital skills and for some in the rural and underserved communities, the future remains uncertain.
As LinkedIn presents its 2026 fastest growing skills in six European countries, it is certain that digital skills dominates the list. The data used in analyses definitely does not represent the workforce without access to computers or the 960 million people in Africa who remain unconnected to the internet.

European countries dominate in the representative data used in analyses of many researches due to their pro-active approach in development and dominance. Most economies in the EU is driven by AI-related skills. Traditional careers in their countries are quickly incorporating tech-driven solutions. For instance, Germany’s traditional automobile manufacturing sector is actively undergoing transformation in the way it delivers its products. When Russia cut of the supply of cheap gas, energy cost increased in Europe, China became a bigger competitor against many EU countries. For Germany’s economy, the response to the emerging trend is a shift from traditional energy-intensive production to huge investment in digital infrastructure facilities which has helped the country’s energy transition to a global leader in “Green Technology”. Its traditional manufacturing model is shifting to AI driven machines by the power of digital technology. Industrial AI is applied in physics and engineering and sells “equipment-as-a-service”. This is a futuristic approach towards a complex and evolving multidisciplinary work landscape.
Based on February 2026 LinkedIn data, here are the fastest growing skill in some European countries:
France is engaged in “Performance Analysis and Steering”, “Customer Relationship Management” as there is increasing administrative need for real-time visibility of performance and customer retention. New acquisition is not as important as retaining acquired customers, so employers prioritize Performance Analysis as a means to show proficiency, tell their story and prove impact.
Germany’s current administration has a long term plan and rolls out a 500 Billion Euro investment plan to achieve this in areas like “Cloud Environment”, “Cloud Service” and “Infrastructure as Code”. These skills are important to ensure its tech sovereignty and security. The investment also favous “Project and Product Management” to ensure high outcomes from its modern projects.
Italy is invested in “Professional Communication” and “Soft Skills” especially in areas such as “Active Listening” and “Interpersonal Awareness”, “Conflict Resolution” and “Relationship building”. These are more critical skills needed in a collaborative problem-solving environment to improve business outcomes.
The data paints a picture of a high-speed digital future. It also casts a long shadow over those left behind. While Europe utilizes its pro-active dominance to secure its economic future, the 960 million people in Africa and countless rural communities remain spectators to a revolution that should include them. The lack of internet access and hardware isn’t just an inconvenience but an economic embargo.
Without investment in digital literacy, the world misses out in untapped global talents while it is headed to economic stagnation.
By the concept of global interconnectedness, the world is a system that suffers together from the imbalance of any of its components.
To ignore the unconnected people while building a high-speed future is to build a global community on a shaky foundation.
